I have helped more than 500 students master the fastest Desmos strategies.

I’m Paul Wright, founder of Ascend Test Prep. I’ve been teaching math for more than 25 years and have spent the past 5 years helping students master Desmos to improve their SAT and ACT Math scores. The Desmos Graphing Calculator is built directly into the Digital SAT and is also available on the online ACT. Watch the short video to learn more about what makes Ascend Test Prep different and how students can turn Desmos into a test-day advantage.

Desmos Mastery Cohort for the Digital ACT/SAT

A comprehensive 4-week program for a small cohort of students working toward a 700+ SAT Math score or a 30+ ACT Math score.

  • 12 hours of live, interactive instruction in a small cohort capped at 8 students to maximize individual attention and participation.
  • Two 20-minute one-on-one coaching sessions
    • Pre-course meeting: Identify your strengths, goals, and areas for improvement.
    • Mid-course check-in: Review your progress, answer questions, and fine-tune your test-day strategy.
  • 3 hours of open office hours for additional instruction, Q&A, and personalized support.
  • Guided review of 200+ official ACT and College Board Digital SAT math problems focusing on the fastest and most effective Desmos strategies.
  • A comprehensive workbook packed with additional practice problems, step-by-step examples, and techniques to reinforce every concept covered throughout the cohort.

Geometry Mastery Cohort for the ACT/SAT

Many students complete geometry in middle school or during their freshman year of high school, often several years before taking the ACT or SAT. As a result, important concepts and formulas may not be readily recalled. In addition, classroom instruction is typically aligned to state academic standards and end-of-course assessments rather than the specific question types, reasoning skills, and problem-solving strategies emphasized on the ACT and SAT.

  1. Geometry is a significant part of both exams
    ACT Math: 8-12 problems · Approximately 20% SAT Math: 7-9 problems · Approximately 16%

Many students lose valuable points because they struggle to recognize common problem types, recall essential formulas, or choose the fastest solution strategy.

  2. Complete geometry preparation for the Digital ACT & SAT

The Geometry Mastery Cohort helps students master every major geometry concept tested on both exams while developing the speed, accuracy, and confidence needed to succeed under timed conditions.

  3. Authentic practice that builds speed and confidence

Students complete hundreds of authentic Digital ACT and Digital SAT geometry problems. By the end of the program, they can recognize recurring question types, avoid common mistakes, and confidently solve even the most challenging geometry problems.

About Paul Wright

I've spent more than 25 years helping students master mathematics and reach their academic goals. I also experienced these challenges firsthand as a parent. My own son took Honors Geometry as an eighth grader, but by the time he was a junior preparing for the ACT and SAT, many of the formulas, theorems, and geometric properties he had once learned were no longer fresh in his mind.

Even as an AP Calculus student, he had never been taught how to use Desmos strategically and efficiently on these high-stakes exams. Desmos is a powerful graphing and scientific calculator built directly into the Digital SAT testing app (Bluebook) and is also available on the online ACT. On the Digital SAT, students can access Desmos throughout the entire Math section, making it one of the most powerful tools available on test day.

After four years of high school math, I was surprised that such a valuable tool had never been incorporated into his instruction. That experience reinforced my belief that students need more than traditional math classes. They need targeted preparation that reviews the concepts tested on the ACT and SAT while teaching them how to use Desmos and other strategies to solve problems quickly and accurately.

As a high school mathematics teacher, ACT/SAT instructor, and founder of Math Gangsta and Ascend Test Prep, I've worked with hundreds of students to improve their confidence, develop efficient problem-solving strategies, and achieve scores they once thought were out of reach. My mission isn't just to help students get the right answer—it's to teach them how to think like mathematicians.

Throughout my career, I've become fascinated by how students learn. Too much test prep still relies on memorization, repetitive drills, and outdated methods. I believe students deserve something better: engaging instruction, visual explanations, proven strategies, and the smart use of technology like Desmos to solve problems faster and with greater confidence.

Math is hard. Learning it doesn't have to be.

Whether you're aiming for a 30+ on the ACT, a 700+ on SAT Math, or simply want to become a stronger math student, my goal is to make difficult concepts click—and to show you that math doesn't have to be intimidating. It can actually be fun.
